Concrete used for construction of residential, commercial and industrial structure, several projects like bridge, dams, reservoir, Highway Roadways driveway, french drainage system, patio, tunnels, base for retaining walls, drain construction, pavement, road, street, walkaway, and used for slab etc.

Concrete is blended mix of Portland cement, sand, cement, gravel and water with approved ingradients and its used to form different size of concrete slab: 1) 50cm × 50cm at 2, 4 & 5cm thickness, 2) 40cm × 40cm at 2, 4 & 5cm thickness, 3) 30cm × 30cm at 2, 4 & 5cm thickness, and 4) 60cm × 60cm at 2, 4 & 5cm thickness.

The weight of concrete is determined by its density, which can vary based on the amount of aggregate, water, and air in the mix. Generally solid slab of concrete weighs about 2200 kg per cubic meter, 2.2 kg per litre, 62 kg per cubic foot, or 10 kg per UK gallon. General thickness of solid slab of concrete is 2cm, 4cm and 5cm.

How to calculate weight of concrete slab

To calculate weight of concrete slab in kg, multiply the volume of slab in cubic metres and density of concrete i.e. 2200 kg/m3. The volume is simply calculated as Area times the thickness, i. e. volume = Area × thickness. So, weight of concrete slab in kg = Volume of slab in m3 × 2200 kg/m3.

Steps to find weight of concrete slab are following:

1) Measure all dimensions (Length, width, and thickness) of concrete slab in cm,

2) Divide by 100 to convert all 3 measurements in meter,

3) Multiply length of slab by width and by thickness to determine cubic meters

4) Multiply the total cubic meters needed by the 2200 kg to get weight of concrete slab in kg.

For example, if concrete slab size is 50×50×5, then calculate weight of concrete slab: 1) A concrete slab of dimension 50cm long by 50cm wide by 5cm thick, 2) Length in meter = 50/100 = 0.5 meter, Width in meter = 50/100 = 0.5 meter, and Thickness in meter = 5/100 = 0.05 meter, 3) Volume of concrete slab = 0.5m × 0.5m × 0.05m = 0.0125m3, 4) concrete slab weight 50×50×5 = 0.0125 × 2200 = 27.5kg

Weight of concrete slab per square metre

As per using metric system, generally weight of concrete slab is about 220 kg per square metre at suggested depth of 10cm thick, 110 kg at 5cm thick, 88 kg at 4cm thick and 44 kg at 2cm thick.

Concrete slab weight per m2 at 2cm
● 1) 1m3 concrete slab weight = 2200 kg
● 2) 2cm in meter = 2/100 = 0.02 meter
● 3) Division factors = 1m3/ 0.02m = 50
● 4) Concrete slab weight per m2 at 2cm = 2200/ 50 = 44 kg

Concrete slab weight per m2 at 4cm
● 1) 1m3 concrete slab weight = 2200 kg
● 2) 4cm in meter = 4/100 = 0.04 meter
● 3) Division factors = 1m3/ 0.04m = 25
● 4) Concrete slab weight per m2 at 4cm = 2200/ 25 = 88 kg

Concrete slab weight per m2 at 5cm
● 1) 1m3 concrete slab weight = 2200 kg
● 2) 5cm in meter = 5/100 = 0.05 meter
● 3) Division factors = 1m3/ 0.05m = 20
● 4) Concrete slab weight per m2 at 5cm = 2200/ 20 = 110 kg

Concrete slab weight per m2 at 10cm
● 1) 1m3 concrete slab weight = 2200 kg
● 2) 10cm in meter = 10/100 = 0.1 meter
● 3) Division factors = 1m3/ 0.1m = 10
● 4) Concrete slab weight per m2 at 10cm = 2200/ 10 = 220 kg
